SYDNEY BYRON BAY surf school, bus tours, camp & lodge accomodation

This mobile surfcamp is ran by three friends who will take you on a surf pilgrimage along the route followed by Sydney surfers since the early 1960's. The tour leaves Sydney on Monday morning and reaches Byron Bay on Friday night. There are 30 seats onboard the luxury Volvo Coach, fitted with air conditioning, TV & Video. The crew will try to give each person a "surfers lifestyle" experience of their lifetime, while at the same time maintaining a professionally operating tour. All food, transport, accommodation, surfing equipment and coaching is provided at a high quality level. The Pacific Highway runs over some 1.000 km. (620 miles) from Sydney to Brisbane, staying close to the coast most of the time. Along this coast, you will find excellent beaches, most of them virtually deserted and with good surf breaks. Once arriving in Byron Bay, Australia’s surfing Mecca, you can either stay there until the bus goes back to Sydney on Sunday night, or opt for the nine day surfcamp package and take the bus back to Sydney Sunday next. Combining the 5 Day Surf tour and 9 Day Surf Camp is the best option to enjoy a surf trip “down under” to the full!

THE LOCATION

Sydney
Starting point of the Surf Bus Tour, Sydney is Australia's largest city, chief port, main cultural and industrial centre, and site of the 2000 Olympic Games. State capital of New South Wales, the city was founded in 1788 as the first penal settlement of Australia, its name taken from Captain Cook's patron, Viscount Sydney. The town has two notable bridges that cross Port Jackson inlet, Harbour Bridge and Gladesville Bridge, and Sydney's most famous landmark is the Opera House. Sunny, sexy and sophisticated, Sydney is often compared to San Francisco for its setting and laid back atmosphere. Sydney's greatest summer experience is on its beaches, 20 of them strung along the city oceanfront and dozens more around the inner harbour bay. But Sydney is also a prime surf destination and there is probably no city in the world that has as many surf breaks in its metropolitan area, distributed between the North Coast and South Coasts, each having its own swell and wind characteristics. These are paged with international surf icons such as "Bondi", "Manly", "Avalon", "Narrabeen", "Dee Why" or "Shark Island".

Holiday Coast
North of Sydney, the Pacific Highway runs over some 1,000 km. (620 miles) from Sydney to Brisbane, staying close to the coast most of the time. Along this coast, known as Australia's Holiday Coast or New South Wales North Coast, you will find excellent beaches, most of them virtually deserted and with good surf breaks. Inland, the Great Dividing Range, which separates the wetter coastal plains from the dry interiors, throws up lush rain forests and tropical plantations - by the time you reach Coffs Harbour, famous for its banana plantations, the climate has turned subtropical. Crescent Head, Arrawarra and Byron Bay are all located on NSW's Holiday Coast.

Byron Bay
The last stage of the Surf Bus Tour through NSW. Byron Bay is the eastern most point of the Australian mainland: the sun's rays hit Byron Bay before any other place on the continent. The little town of Byron Bay is an artists colony with a large "alternative" community that attracts squadrons of backpackers and families each summer. Surfers flock to the town as well for some of the best surfing in Australia. Wategos Beach and The Pass are two particularly good surf spots, each one on one side of Cape Byron so that the swell will break well on at least one of them. The Main Beach, its sandy shores stretching south over 50 kilometres (31 miles) has plenty of beach break, many ideal for beginners, and is safe for swimming. Many accommodations in Byron Byron Bay offer free surfboards for guests. Although not included in the 5 Day Tour package, you will be guaranteed accommodation on arrival at Byron Bay, a good place to spend a few day surfing and springboard to the neigbouring Queensland and its faboulous surfspot on the Golden Coast, sucha as Surfers Paradise - the name says it all !
