THE LOCATION

Cornwall
The ancient duchy of Cornwall covers the extreme south-western part of England, a peninsula ending up at Land’s End, the end of England. Encircled by coastline, it abounds in rugged cliffs, hidden bays, fishing villages, sandy beaches, and sheltered coves where smuggling was once rampant. This peninsula is a virtual island, culturally if not geographically, and has retained its own distinctive flavour and own language until about 250 years ago - some of the old words still survive. A trip to this region would not be complete without a visit to Tintagel Castle, linked with the legends of King Arthur, Lancelot and Merlin.

Climate
Northern Atlantic, with mildish wet winters and cool summers
Cornwall is warmed by the Gulf Stream to the point where semitropical plants thrive in many of its coastal town and villages, somewhat reminiscent of the Mediterranean.
