THE CAMP
Located in northern Mentawai near the Playgrounds anchorage, the resort offer 21 DIFFERENT WAVES to choose from; The staff is proud of his extensive knowledge of secret spots as well as Mentawai weather conditions, built up from their combined 20 years of experience hunting waves in the area. With unrivaled speed and comfort between lineups you will get BETTER SURF more often with LESS CROWDS.
You don´t need to be an hardcore Surfer... there are perfect easy waves for an average surfer !!

THE ACCOMODATION :
The newly refurbished house, ready for the 2008 season, has 2 bedrooms,2 bathrooms downstairs and 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom upstairs. The top priority was for all the accommodation to have a great view of Hideaways breaking. Mission accomplished! In 2008 it will be hosting 12 guests at a time, 4 per bedroom.
Lush green grass abounds in the coconut plantation where the house and restaurant are built. A garden of vegetables, fruits and flowers surrounds the property.
Mattresses, pillows, top and bottom sheets and mosquito nets are provided for all guests in bunk beds. We encourage guests to bring their own equipment (special pillows etc.) if they have special sleeping needs. Please note that only towels for bathing are provided , so please bring your own surf/beach towel.
The views from the accommodations are fantastic. The top bedroom, nicknamed the "Paris Hilton Suite" is over 20ft. off the ground overlooking the anchorage and Hideaways. The house is approximately 50ft. from the beach. Hideaways can be reached with a 5 minute walk up the beach and a 5 minute paddle out around the reef. If Hideaways isn't breaking, speedboat transportation is available at all times to any of the other waves in the WavePark.
The accommodations have ceiling and floor fans running full time to keep you cool. There are 4 seperate hot/cold outdoor shower stalls with fresh water from the well nearby.
The Resort, thanks to guests and supporters, is proud to offer the following new facilities and equipment for 2008:

THE BAR :
Come, relax and have a cold beverage overlooking Hideaways and the beautiful anchorage on Mainuk. The bar is open day and night with reasonably priced and very cold drinks, straight, shaken, blended or just from the can.
Non alcoholics drinks are free !!!
THE SURF
The resort offers 21 DIFFERENT WAVES to choose from, and others that have no name and are secret, surfed only by the resort’s guides on special swells.The speedboat will deliver you to any of the waves within 30 minutes, and it often check multiple waves on each mission.
Here’s a quick description of some of them...
-RIFLES : A mirror image of Kandui, this right is considered by some to be the best wave in the Mentawai Islands, and sometimes the world, when ideal conditions prevail.
- HIDEAWAYS : The left-hand reef-pass off the point at WPM is visible from the Losmen. A perfect left barrel, this wave eludes most without local knowledge. This wave is the most enjoyed wave in the resort by the majority of guests in 2006.
- KANDOUI LEFT: The fastest left hander you are ever likely to surf, from 4ft. -- 12ft. Good imitation of a sister wave, G-land. This is your best chance to get the barrel of your life, if you have the guts.
- BANK VAULTS : Only one guess how this wave acquired it's name. Think heavy steel doors, secret unlocking combinations and burly guards with smack-down attitude.
- TIKIS : A very consistent right-hand peak, Tiki's is the most dependable surf spot in the Resort. Surfable at every tide and for every surfing level, this wave is very enjoyable and challenging. Very rippable.
- PLAYGROUNDS : The only "A" frame reef in the Resort, the left gets the award for best shape. Reminiscent of lower trestles or rights and lefts, playgrounds requires a huge swell to get above 3 ft. Very mechanical and suitable for all levels.

THE LOCATION
The Mentawai Islands are one of the most consistent surf destinations in the world.
The Mentawai islands are located some 130 km to the west of the west coast of central Sumatra, specifically the province of West Sumatra and its provincial capital Padang. There are four islands in the group. The largest, and most northerly is Siberut. Immediately to the south is Sipora which lies a little way to the north of the two islands which complete the group, North and South Pagai.
Climate
The Mentawai Islands have a stable high temperatures and humidity, with very little change in temperature year round due to it’s proximity to the Equator.
The temperature has an average between 72 – 90 F degrees (22 – 32C).
Water temperature stays constant at about 80F degrees (27C).
The dry season goes from January to September, while the wet season goes from October to December.
Even during the dry season, you can expect rainfall regularly, usually lasting for 1-2 hours, but mainly at night.
The winds are variable throughout most of the year. Since the islands are very close to the Equator, they are less affected by any trade winds and most winds are due to local storms or pressure differentials with many glassy days during the surf season.
THE TRIP
How to get to the Playgrounds Surf Resort Mentawaii?
Online flights/routes:
There are several routes to get to the Playgrounds Surf Resort Mentawaii. We can recommend the following routes and airlines as being reasonably easy to book online by yourself, including tips on the necessary hotel bookings, additional transfers etc.
Via Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)
This is becoming one of the easiest, comfortable and cost effective ways of getting to West Sumatra.

Flights from KLIA to Padang (PDG) are daily with Air Asia www.airasia.com departing at 7:50am.
Most times the arriving and departing flights with Malaysian Airlines don't coincide with the Air Asia flights, in which case you'll need a hotel to stay for the night before you depart to Padang, or depart home again on the way back.

NOTE: AIR ASIA IS AT THE LCCT TERMINAL, AND MALAYSIAN AIRLINES IS AT KLIA TERMINAL. THEY ARE A 20 MINUTE DRIVE FROM EACH OTHER. THERE ARE FREE BUSES FROM THE RESPECTIVE HOTELS TO THE KLIA, AND THEN A BUS FOR 1.5RM (50 CENTS USD) FROM KLIA TO LCCT. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE THE 20 MINUTE BUS RIDE IN YOUR BUDGETED TIME TO GET TO THE AIRASIA FLIGHT.
Via Singapore
Singapore has a wonderful airport, a great national airline, and is the closest and most convenient of all the countries closest to Padang. Unfortunately Singapore nor it's airline is the cheapest. The country has an awesomely efficient and cheap public transportation system to get you around, cheap - expensive lodging and great shopping. Alcohol is very expensive, you'll be murdered (literally) if you get caught trafficing drugs and lashed with the cane for graffiti. Oh, and you're not allowed to chew gum.

Once you get to Singapore, you'll have to organize another flight to Padang. There are two airlines, differentiated mostly by their price and ease of booking.

GARUDA AIRLINES. www.garuda-indonesia.com can't book online, expensive and not direct, but probably no excess baggage charges for your boards, and better quality jets.

Taxis
Once you get off the plane and through customs and immigration, we take care of you all the way. You will be met by a Playgrounds Surf Resort Mentawaii representative at the airport who will help you all the way to the ferry. Transfers from the airport to the ferry are included in your price.
Inter-island Transportation
New in 2007, your daily prices includes flights to and from the Mentawai Islands. We utilize Mentawai Air that operates 5 weekly flights between Padang, Sumatra and Rokot Sipura. From Rokot to the Playgrounds Surf Resort Mentawaii is another 90 minute speedboat ride, also included in your daily price.
