THE CAMP

Accomodation / Facilities
February 1 – April 1 2007
As the name suggests accommodation is lodge style with a twist of class. Constructed in 2006 the Lodge is a giant, open-plan style building right on the lagoon’s edge at Max’s Right.
Sleeping is in two separate air-conditioned bungalows that are attached to the giant, open 23-meter x 15-metre post-and-beam construction house. Each of these attached bungalows has its own shower (hot and cold) and Western style toilet. There are clear views of the surf and jungle from every room of the main lodge building and despite being air-conditioned the rooms are also an open-screen construction giving the feeling of being right in the jungle on the water’s edge.
There are a number of sleeping arrangements that vary from full-size queen beds to normal single bunk- style beds. The sleeping configuration will be dependent on your group. All beds have a permethrin- treated mosquito net and high-quality 100% cotton linen. Each room also has a private deck with undercover surfboard racks.
April 1 Onward.
Accommodation will be in twin-share, architect-designed, over-water bungalows. Each bungalow features a upstairs and downstairs air-conditioned sleeping area for two people as a separate set of single beds or one double, shower, toilet, coffee and tea-making facilities and a well-stocked fridge. Each of the bungalows faces the wave and are located mid lagoon and connected to the main lodge building via a private jetty.
Bar.
The Lodge has a fully stocked bar open to guests and their friends from 5 pm daily. All drinks are at local prices. Ask our barman
“Virus” about the Torpedo cocktail.
Lounge.
Our lounge features comfortable lounges, a big-screen television connected to satellite pay TV, a well-stocked library, huge selection of DVDs, stereo and DV cam playback facility.
Dining.
Dining for evenings and breakfast is restaurant-style tables with a view of the lagoon and the right in front of the lodge. Lunch will generally be on the boat or picnic style on a nearby beach (dependent on surf). There are also snacks and drinks available 24 hours a day. Should you have any special food requirements simply let us know and we can cater for it in advance.
Laundry.
Guest laundry is done every second day (at a small fee) along with all bed linen and towels, using hypoallergenic detergents that are highly biodegradable.
Massage.
Traditional massages are available in house at a charge of 50,000 RP per person. Six hours’ notice is required for this service.
Telephone/Internet.
Telephone service is available by simply activating global roaming on your mobile telephone. Email service is available for users of Blackberry’s. A satellite broadband service is also available at
normal rates.
Our Boat
Captained by camp manager Dave Simons and crewed by local surfer Furna, our main transfer boat, Zero Down, is a 26-foot centre-console, computer-designed-7mm plate alloy, Phil Curren model designed and cut in Australia. ZD is powered by a 200 hp Yamaha two-stroke outboard. Our back-up motor is a 115 HP Yamaha two-stroke.
She carries 200 litres of fuel, giving a full-speed run time of four hours.
The boat is fitted with two-way communications, GPS, fish finder, game rods capable of being rigged for everything from tuna to big sailfish, stereo, ample shaded area and drink and food refrigeration for longer trips. Surf-craft storage is forward and there is ample seating room for eight surfers, guide and driver.
The boat has been refurbished for 2007 and is capable of 26 knots cruise, 33 knots top speed, getting us to most breaks in total comfort and a matter of minutes.
Our lagoon boat, Bombay Sapphire, is a five-meter, locally constructed, wooden craft featuring a flat-bottom high-wall construction. The Sapphire is used for supply runs to the local village and transport around the lagoon and also to the nearby left. The Sapphire is powered by a 15 hp Yamaha and captained by “Ness”.
THE
SURF

Over the years we have surfed the many breaks of this area and during the ‘06 season have explored and researched other locations in the area and made a few other secret discoveries of our own.
There are many different breaks within an hour’s drive of the lodge and 70% of them are within 20 mins. THE SURF HERE IS ULTRA CONSISTENT in the 3-5-foot range, lefts and rights that work in all tides and opposite wind directions virtually guaranteeing offshores every day.
The ones you will see on this page are just a sample of the places we regularly surfed in 2006.
1/Max’s Left.
A long, bowling left that will throw up a tube in two separate sections perfect for the intermediate to advanced surfer. Located directly behind the lodge.
2/Max’s Right
A fun, bowling right that offers everything from hittable walls to tube rides. Less than 100 metres from the lodge, the right is our home break.
3/GT’s.
A super-fun, super tubular, right about 20 minutes from the lodge. Named after Aussie legend Grant Thomas who holds the Telo Island lodge bintang record.
4/Pinnacles.
A super-fun right about five minutes from the lodge. Pinnacles is a great longboard wave and also has a great air section in its end bowl. This wave is set in one of the prettiest backdrops in the region.
5/Schoolyards.
Made up of three separate waves all of which work on different swell directions, the “yard” is about 10 minutes from the lodge. All these waves are rights.
6/LE BA.
Another pretty right that runs along the edge of a nearby island. Suits beginners to intermediate surfers. 10 minutes from the lodge.
7/The Bubble
Suited to advanced-level surfers, the Bubble is a super-sucky right that does a 180-degree wrap. Ten minutes from the lodge.
8/E.R.
Made up of two separate reef passes, the E.R. features two lefts and three rights. Best on a very light to medium swell, the E.R. has a wave suited to all levels of experience. Fifteen minutes from the lodge.
9/Zippers.
A super-fast left suited to experienced surfers, Zippers is a racing tube over a shallow reef 15 minutes from the lodge.
10/Dislocators.
A shallow, tubing left suited to intermediate to advanced surfers, 28 minutes from the lodge.
11/Wegs.
An amazing coral point suited to intermediate to advanced surfers, nothing but high-speed tubes. Thirty-Five minutes from the lodge.

Food
Fresh fruit such as bananas, watermelon, mandarins, apples or papaya is available for you to help yourself at all times at the lodge. Tea, coffee, fruit juice and water (Three litres per person per day) is included in the Lodge package price and is available for you to help yourself to at all times.
For a quick, light breakfast before an early surf cereal (cornflakes, oats, etc) and toast (with jam, Vegemite, honey, etc.) are there for you to help yourself.
Lunch is also usually something that provides you with lots of energy, but not filling you up so much you can't surf in the afternoon. Typical lunches include fresh ham salad sandwiches, noodles, tacos, jaffles, etc. If we are surfing further than 30 mins from Base we will have lunch onboard the boat.
Dinner is the main meal of the day. If any fish is caught during the day this is prepared and served for dinner.
If you don't catch any fish or don't like seafood there is no need to worry as the chef has ample ingredients to prepare different dinners for each night of your stay so you don't get sick of eating the same thing again and again.
Typical dinners include spaghetti, BBQ chicken, curry beef, lasagna and burritos and stir- fried veggies. Vegetables, rice and fresh salad accompany dinners.
We realise when surfing all day that diet is very important. So we provide a variety of good, healthy food for you to eat. Some other charters serve nothing but rice and noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so if you are thinking of booking with someone else find out what you will be eating first.
Meals are mostly "all-you-can-eat" and there are usually plenty of leftovers.
There are no set meal times so when you eat depends on what the surf is doing. So don't think if you stay out surfing from 10 am to 3pm that you will miss lunch!
WE TAKE CLEANLINESS AND HYGIENE VERY SERIOUSLY AND ENSURE THAT OUR KITCHEN AND UTENSILS ARE ALWAYS KEPT CLEAN
LOCATION

The resort is an exclusive lodge located on remote Sibranun Island in the Telo group, Sumatra, Indonesia.
