THE SURF

The 5 Day Tour heads north of Auckland for the simple reasons of the the subtropical climate, the remote and unspoiled beaches, and the consistency of the surf due to the proximity of the three coasts: North, East and West

The North Island, with miles of coastline and a subtropical climate, is a real surfers paradise. The surfing near the main urban areas can get a bit crowded, but there are many secret spots and huge areas with nobody else in the water. Unlike Australia, you are unlikely to share your surf session with sharks ! The North Island has two main surfing areas; the West Coast and East Coast, each with very different characteristics. The West is reputed to be rough and wild, the East calmer and more picturesque. However, the differences are not that neat and pristine waves can be found on the West Coast while powerful waves can be encountered on the East coast as well.
