THE SURFHOUSE

The comfortable Surf House is ideally situated directly in front of Santa Catalina's main break and minutes away from other world-class surf spots. Accommodation comprises a 2-story main lodge with 3 bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen. The second lodge building features five private cabanas, and we are the only one that offers a private bathroom and air conditioning, each one. Individually named after various islands known for their reef breaks, each cabana can sleep up to six (the actual number may be less, depending on total overall occupancy). Their comfortable size gives ample extra space for stowing surfboards, scuba gear, fishing tackle, and personal items.

The main house area offers guests Direct TV, home theater and the only private telephone and only Internet (via satellite) access in the area. The food prepared by the restaurant's resident chef features generous portions of international cuisine, with upstairs and downstairs terraces, and the bar offers a place to relax with panoramic views of the Pacific.

There are two vehicles to shuttle guests to and from Santiago, the province capital with a lot of attractions, or other nearby towns for the evening.

THE SURF

Surf Tours
Adventure seekers have many options to choose from. The Outer Islands Surf Tour will take surfers to secret spots on the nearby virgin islands on the coral reef, while the Surf Camp will take you daily by boat to the main breaks of Santa Catalina and a couple of secret spots. You can enjoy sport fishing at Coiba Island, considered among the top 3 sport fishing sites in the world. Punta Brava has three private boats, one of them the most powerful in the area, to take surfers to the spots. As there is "life after surf", other activities include diving in the primitive nearby islands and coral reef, the only one on the Pacific Coast of Panama. This reef is unique because it was formed millions of years ago in the Atlantic, and remained in the Pacific after the isthmus of Panama completely closed, separating the two oceans.

Surf Spots
Surf is a year round practice in Panama, be it on the Pacific or Caribbean Coast. There are numerous spots on both coasts, but the most consistent and famous one is Santa Catalina, on the Pacific Coast at the Gulf of Montijo. This amous reef break area is a Mecca for surfers from all over the world, although the area is reputed for its waves that can reach up to 20 feet and the rocky bottom can produce spectacularly perfect tubes. Santa Catalina is where you will find some of the best waves in all of Central America. Santa Catalina's majestic break, which has both left and right sections, is consistent year-round. World-class surf spots include Santa Catalina, Punta Brava, Punta Roca, La Puntica and El Estero.

Climate
Tropical climate with dry and wet season. The dry season lasts from December through April, when warm winds blowing offshore 24 hours a day. Surf wise, the waves are smaller but the wind offshore. The dry season last from April to November and is referred to as the winter ! But the air and water temperatures remain tropical. Surf wise, the swell is also much more consistent, showers more frequent and the wind oinshore. No need for wetsuits ! All you need is trunks, warm water wax and sunscreen.
