The school is located along 5 km’s of white sandy beach in the heart of Cabo Verde’s Kite and Wind Surfing haven. With an off-shore wind at the beginning of the bay and a slight on-shore wind at the end of the bay it is a perfect location for both beginners and experts. A well kept secret this spot is great for making long runs in clear blue water. If it is wave riding you seek, the school organizes safaris to the other locations on the island, such as Kite beach and Ponta Preta. The latter is where you can find radical World Class waves, sailable with side offshore winds (experts only!). The school offers courses and rentals in all three areas of Surf: Wind, Kite and Surf. Instructor’s skills range from the ability to teach those who seek to learn the sport and enhance the skill level of those who want to shift to the next level. Its proximity to a variety of hotels and apartments ensure accessibility from a cross range of accommodation ranging from expensive to affordable.

THE SURF SCHOOL
Surf, Kite & Windsurf
The School is well established in its environment and therefore its instructors
are well versed in the day to day conditions for all types of surf. With
a focus on safety and supportive learning, the school teaches all its
students, irrespective of their level, how to surf safely in their chosen
surf sport. All our instructors are multi-lingual and qualified to teach
all levels of the sport, weather it is starting new, or expanding the
boundaries of existing skills.
The courses are developed so as to teach a variety of age and skill levels.
All theory is hands on and occurs on the beach with the equipment. Our
goal is to move you to a stage of independence where you can then practice
the skills we have taught you. For those with friends and family not partaking
in any form of surfing, we are located on a beach club, with mattresses,
umbrellas, fresh showers as well as a bar and restaurant.
KITE SURF Course Descriptions:
Intro: This is a 3 hour introduction to kite, consisting of on the beach training with a small kite-learning the basic techniques of how to fly the kite. Followed body drag with kite to experience sensation of kite surfing and to know if it is for you.
Kick Starter Course (6hours): This is a 6 hour course for those who want a taste of kite surfing, but do not want to commit to a full beginner course. This course consists of beach training, body drag, and introduction to the board in the water.
Full Beginner Course: 10 hours: This course is for people who can not kite surf and want to learn to Kite Surf. The course first teaches the student how to control and fly the kite. Once the instructor is sure that the student is able to handle the kite, they are introduced to the board. The goal of the course is to have the student up on the board and practice controlling their direction. The course also teaches the student how to set up and launch their kite as well as how to kite surf safely.
Intermediate Zone Surfer (6hours): This course is for people who can kite surf a little but are struggling to go up-wind. The course focuses on teaching the student how to go up wind, and go out and return to the same position. These surfers are up on the board but struggle a little with direction. These Kite Surfers should be able to re-launch a kite in Deep Water:
Advanced High Flyer: (6 hours) For more advanced kite surfers wanting to learn jumps, and better technique. These surfers can go up wind and go out and come back to the same position.
Refresher/Supervision Course: (4 hours) This is for people for can kite surf but would like some supervisions and tips to get used to the local conditions and material (if rented from us). For this course: kiter’s must be able to re-launch in deep water and kite surf up-wind
Supervision plus Rental: This is for a one week rental of all kite material plus 4 hours of supervision and introduction to rental material and the surfing environment here.
THE SURF SPOTS
Surf, Kite & Wind Surf
The ideal spot for both beginners as well as advanced surfers is in the
bay located right in front of the station. Defined by its clear glassy
waters and white sandy beaches, complimented by a slight off-shore wind
at the beginning of the bay and a slight on shore wind at the end, it
is a surfing haven.
Other locations include the world famous Ponta Preta as well as the less
risky Reef and Calheta Funda, known for off-shore strong winds with good
waves, advanced wave riders love it ! On the east coast there is Cabeza
de Salinas, popular for its on-shore wind, nice waves and safe beach.
It is perfect for intermediate to advanced kite surfers and expert wind
surfers. All locations areas are within a 5 to15 minute drive from the
station.

THE LOCATION
ISLAND OF SAL (CABO VERDE)
The island of Sal is one of 11 islands that make up the archipelago that is the Cape Verde Islands, known better as Cabo Verde. It is a well kept secret by Surfers around the world that travel here for some of the best wave locations. Known for its sandy beaches, glassy waters and year round warm climate, Sal is a destination for beginners and experts. Santa Maria, is one of three main towns on the island, located on the southern coast. It is approximately 15 minutes from the airport. The town itself has character and is located on the edge of the beach. The surf school is located on Santa Maria Beach.
CLIMATE
The average wind strength in Santa Maria, Sal (Cabo Verde) is between 18-20 knots in the Winter and 12-15 knots in the Summer. The corresponding Kite sizes during these seasons would be between 12-14 in the winter and 14-18 the summer. The water temperature averages between 21-29 degrees year round. Whereas, the air temperature is between 21 and 30c all year around.
THE TRIP
TACV (Cabo Verde Airlines) operate flights to Ilha do Sal (Island of Sal) from several European cities including Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan and Munich direct to Cape Verde with connecting fares from most UK airports.
TACV also operate a regular service from Boston, Dakar, Fortaleza and Las Palmas de Gran Canarias. TAP Air Portugal operate daily flights from London via Lisbon to Cape Verde.
