The Surf
For nearly forty years surfers have travelled across Australia and from around the world to take on the world-class waves of this renowned region. Margaret River's Surfers Point is home to the International Drug Aware Pro Margaret River presented by O'Neill, which is usually held around March-April.With over 75 top class surf breaks spread over 130 kilometres of pristine coastline from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin, surfers are absolutely spoiled for choice.
The best waves are in autumn , however summer and spring also offer consistent swells. It is very rare to find the ocean flat for more than a few days, even in summer. There is a wide variety of breaks offering varying difficulty, and a number of small beach breaks that are perfect for inexperienced surfers and novices.
To surf the waves of this region is the goal of surfers the world over. Come and experience the ultimate surf safari in the Margaret River region!
An unspoilt wave haven that Tom Carrol, Tom Curren and other contemporary surf legends have declared a sacret site. Now home to surfing super stars such as Taj Burrow, the region has grown rapidly, gaining international claim for its winerys, towering Karri forest and espectacular coastal scenery. The many bays make it ease when the wind starts blowing and the swell is pumping, and you can find smaller waves when the outside reefs are too big.
SOME OF THE WAVES:
Supertubes: Super shallow right hander that spits an intense barrel.(reef break)
Injidup carpark: Hollow right that walls up, barrels then provides an extremly spankable lip.(reef break)
Injidup Point : Long and fun lefthander that breaks in a beautiful scenery.(reef break)
Honeycombs: Beach break that provides easy and fun lefthanders.
North Point: World Class wave, one of the most intense barrels in the area, long righthander. (reef break)
South point: Long left that keeps walling up forever up to 200m,with a barrel section on low tide. (reef break)
Lefthanders: One of the most consistant high performance waves in the area. The take off is smooth, the tube sections are fun and the lips very whackable.(reef break)
River mouth: Located next to the famous Surfers Point, a beach break good for all levels fun righthanders and lefthanders.
Surfers point: Long lefthander and hollow righthander that can hold waves up to 15ft.(reef break)
The box: Sucks almost square over a dry reef ledge bombie. Featuring in many surfing magazines this wave is only for pros or super confident surfers.
Gas Bay: Highly workable righthand barrel over a sand-covered reef.
Boodjidup: Very fun and easy on small swells but turns into very intense barrels on the biggest swells, rights and lefts.(beach break)
Redgate: Easy and high perfomance beach break good for all levels, lefts and rights.
