Algarve Kitesurf Camp offers the whole range of water sports including surf, kitesurf, windsurf and wakeboard, as well as atmospheric accommodation at its two houses, the Surf Lodge in Vale da Telha, Aljezur at only 5 minutes to the legendary surf-spots of Arrifana and Monte Clerigo, and the Kite House, a backpaker style townhouse in the old fishermen quarters of Lagos, Algarve's touristic capital.

The staff of Wake, Kite, Surf Algarve consists of experienced and well trained watersport-instructors with a great knowledge of the local conditions. They are certified by the British Surfing Association (BSA) and VDWS/IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) providing top-notch tuition for surfing, kiteboarding and wakeboarding in English, German and Portuguese. The customers of the camp have a great choice of new equipment from leading brands, like NSP, Bic, O´Neill, Prolimit, Cabrinha, Best Kiteboarding, O´Brien and Liquid Force. For the wakeboarding they use the legendary Mastercraft X-Star, the official tow-boat of the X-Games. The wake of this boat is hudge, you can even surf it!!

The Accommodation

THE KITE HOUSE

The Kite House is a backpacker style townhouse in the old fishermen quaters in the center of Lagos. We reach the kitelagoon from here within 10 min. with our 4x4 UMMs the portuguese Landrovers, the marina where the wakeboard boat is waiting is only a short walk and all surfspots of the south and west coast are reached within 30 min. Of cause are all transports from the Kite House to the different spots included. The Kite House offers a cosy lounge with WiFi- Internet connection, cable TV and multimedia pc. You can fix your own meals in the well equipped kitchen, have a BBQ in the patio or the terrasse and hang out in the hammocks. If you like to go out... it is only a 3 min. walk into the old town of Lagos with many very good restaurants, bars and a boiling nightlife. 

THE SURF LODGE

The Surf Lodge is locaded in Vale da Telha, Aljezur. This house is perfect for Surfers and couples who like to stay in a quiet place in the rual country side of the west coast  close to the great surf spots Arrifana, Monte Clerigo and Amoreira. The  Surf lodge offers double and dorm rooms many with there own bathroom. The big kitchen can be used to fix own meals, if you don´t feel like cooking visit one of the portugese restaurants for some classic fish dishes. After a day on the water you can relax on the sundeck or fire up the grill. The lounge offers free WiFi-internet and a video projector for the latest surf films and movies. The daily transport to the surf spots is included, the supermarket is only a short walk but for greater independence and for other activitys we suggest a rental car, which we happily arrange for you.

The Kitesurfing

THE KITESURF

Our kite school spot is a big lagoon very close to Lagos. Depending on the tides the water is between knee and shoulder deep making it easy to learn the basics of kiteboarding. The “Nortada” the Portuguese north wind gets accelerated by the surrounding landscape which allows wind speed up to 20 knots while other parts of the Algarve are calm. This is the reason the PKRA (the Kiteboarding Pro Tour) stops here once per year. We take our clients by boat to an island in the middle of the lagoon. This place offers steady wind and lots of room for maximum safety and perfect learning conditions. Beginners to pros love the flat, warm water around the island.

Kiteboarding Lessons

The camp participants are coached by multilingual, certified and well-trained IKO and VDWS-Instructors. Our unique, up-to-date teaching methods are supported by waterproof walkie-talkies, boat assistance and teaching with video camera. Naturally modern kiteboarding equipment from our partners: Cabrinha, Best kiteboarding and pro-limit is included for the duration of the course. Our students are taught in small groups never bigger than 4 students per teacher. At the end of the theoretic and practical part of the course we offer a certification by IKO or VDWS-Standard allowing to rent equipment at kite stations world wide

Starting this season we are offering a windsurfing camp for beginners and intermediat. The consistent wind and the flat water make the Algarve a perfect destination to lern or improve your windsurfing skills. Our friendly instructors teach on new equipment from startboard Severne sails and Pro-Limit equipment. In our surfcamp you will get 5 days of windsurfing with 2 hours of instruction and 2 hourse of free practice with the equipment. You will stay in the kitehouse in the center of Lagos, perfect for nightlife.

The boat …and what a boat it is. Mastercraft X-star 40th Anniversary Edition with all the extras you need and you may never heard of. The X-1 was originally the first X-Star, created as the official towboat of the X-Games over 10 years ago, and is the boat that pulled world-, pro tour- and X Games champion Parks Bonifay to his first double half cab roll and his first 1080.

All our boat drivers double as coaches. They all have at least three years experience coaching and will help you nail your latest move. You’ll be going big in no time! Equipment is supplied by O’Brien and Ronix and often you’ll find the latest demo gear from Ronix is there for you to try if you’re a more experienced rider. 

THE SURF

The Algarve is known to be a great spot for surfing. The swell window wider than 180° allows finding waves at anytime during the year. Lots of great beach- and reefbreaks offer perfect conditions for beginners to pros. Less known is that the coastline also offers very good conditions for kiteboarding and wakeboarding. The mornings are calm and glassy for surfing on the west coast or kitesurfing and wakeboarding in the south, at noon the wind picks up, excellent for kiteboarding. Beginners and Freestylers prefer the shallow lagoons, while the waveriders use the kite to ride the waves with sideshore wind.

The Location

The Algarve is situated in the southern most part of Portugal, stretching along the Atlantic between the Spanish border and Cabo Sao Vicente, Europe's south western most point. It was the last territory to be conquered back from the Moors in 1292 and their presence is still very much present in the architecture of the region with its whitewashed houses standing against the red earth and greenery. Sheltered from the northern winds by the Monchique range and facing south, the Algarve enjoys a privileged climate all year round, in brightly coloured and fertile surroundings covered with orange, fig and almond groves. The southern coastline is formed by a long stretch of fabulous beaches, only broken up by impressive reddish cliffs. The west coast is wilder and the sea rougher, with a string of solitary coves and beaches accessed through dirt tracks.

Algarve's capital Faro enjoys a central location on the coast and the old town has many historical monuments, including a medieval wall. Further west, Lagos is a well known touristic destination on the banks of a river estuary and its old quarters are enclosed within 15th century walls. Also worth a visit is the little town of Monchiqueand its famous thermal spa, nestling in the Serra de Monchique mountain range, which highest point at nearly 1,000 meters enjoys splendid panoramic views across the Algarve to the Atlantic.

Sagres lies at the western end of the Algarve, next to Cabo Sao Vicente. It was here that five centuries ago, Prince Henrique set up a school of navigation which has played a crucial role in the Portuguese discoveries. The town has a magnificent fortress built in the 14th century with a giant 43 meters compass rose. Cabo Sao Vicente fortress is poised on high cliffs facing the Atlantic. It was built on the original Roman site of "Promontorium Sacrum" - or sacred promontory, as they believe the cape was the end of the world, being the southwestern-most point of Europe. 

Climate

Atlantic/Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot summers. Due to its exposure on a peninsula, the region enjoys excellent swell and wind conditions year round for the practice of surf or kitesurf.
