Founded in 1988, the school has catered for over 4,000 people over the years. Its founder has spent 10 years in Europe’s Top-10 and today combines the management of the school with being Quiksilver team-manager. All monitors hold an official surf teacher and lifeguard license. The school is open to all levels of surf, from beginners to advanced. Theoretical and practical classes. For the accomplished surfers who do not need to take lessons, guided surf tours to the best waves in the area are organized, according to swell conditions and surfers' skills.
Campervan Surfaris
For experienced surfers, the On-the-Road Surfaris offer the possibility to discover the surf spots of the Basque and Cantabrian Coast aboard the camp’s campervan, sleeping six, perfectly equipped and driven by an expert surf guide.
From the base camp on the outskirts of Bilbao, you will be discovering the best breaks in the area according to surf conditions and participants’ skills and wished. With these criteria in mind, the surfari will drive you through the Basque Coast on both side of the border and up to Biarritz and Hossegor to the north, as well as the Cantabrian Coast to the west up to Galicia. The surf guide will tell you the difficulties and tricks of each wave and the best material to use in order to make the most of your trip.
At specific date, the Surfaris will travel to WTC championships held in the area to watch the best surfers in action ((Pro France, Mundaka Pro, Zarautz Pro, King of the Groms, Pantin Classic, Supertubos, etc.).
The price of the Surfaris include transport, campervan accommodation and full board. You just have to bring your own surf gears and your enthusiasm to spend a week of surf adventures ! Maximum five surfers per trip plus the driver/surf guide. Groups of friend can hire the whole van for themselves.
Surf Spots
Extending between Biarritz and Bilbao, the Basque Country has the best surf coast in Spain and possibly in Europe. One of Europe’s finest lefts, Mundaka is a powerful rivermouth break in the picturesque Gernika estuary, a natural area protected by the UNESCO and dominated by the village’s church ! Another world class reef break is Meniakoz, a very big and powerful right. Further good spots in the area include Bakio and Sopelana, both regional classics with left and right beach breaks accessible to all. and Zarautz, a reputed beach break left and right venue of an annual WQS competition.
A few miles up north across the border, the French Basque Coast is the cradle of surf in Europe and boast a number of mythical waves. The most famous ones are Biarritz & Anglet beach breaks, Lafiténia point break and Guéthary reef break. A bit further north on the Silver Coast, the world famous spots of Hossegor is the venue of many surf contests such as the Quicksilver Pro and Rip Curl Pro.
Extending westwards on the opposite side of Bilbao, the Cantabrian Coast has many excellent surf spots, less known yet well worth the trip all the way, such as Somo (Santander), Rodiles (Asutrias) or Razo Beach (Galicia).
The best season to surf the area is Spring and Autumn, when the swell generated by the Northern Atlantic storms is steady and strong, travelling through the Gulf of Biscay and crashing against the sea bottom, which rises abruptly in front of the coast.

Basque Coast
Flanked by the Atlantic and the Pyrenees mountain ranges, the Basque Country occupies the north-west corner of the Iberian Peninsula, stradling the French border. One of the most industrialised region in Spain, its inhabitants have nevertheless managed to preserve through the centuries an age-old autochthonous culture which most valuable jewel is its language, Euskera, a pre-Indo European tongue whose mysterious origin has never been established. Euskadi, meaning Basque Country in the native language, is part of the Green Spain. The landscape is formed by a cliff-lined coast with quaint fishing villages and mountainous hinterland covered by green forests, offering a contrasting image to the dry and desert like central Spain.
Bilbao is the industrial, financial and intellectual capital of the Basque Country. One of Spain’s largest city and the country’s major harbour, Bilbao has recently turned into a popular touristic destination through a complete architectural revival featuring Frank Gehry’s stiking Guggenheim Museum, Norman Foster's impressive subway system and Santiago Calatrava’s spectacular new airport terminal.
Climate
Atlantic, with mild/wet winters and cool summers.
